OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - Hydrating is really important during these extremely hot days we have been having.

Keeping enough water for the homeless has been a challenge.

Hydrate for Hope took place Thursday morning. The Open Door Mission is collecting bottled water donations.

They have been handing out extra water on the streets. They have gone through pallets and pallets of water and need to restock their shelves to continue to help those in need.

"We use to use jugs of water where people could pour water into their own cups but now we have to do food handling which means we have to have staff distributing things to people so they can't even touch them,” said Steve Frazee, CPO of the Open Door Mission. “Having bottled water was once a nice thing to have and we could use when days really got hot to now where it is a necessity."

If you want to drop off bottled water you can do so next week. The days are Tuesday through Saturday at the Open Door Mission's Timberlake Outreach Center.
