Immigration and Customs Enforcement says it rounded up 86 foreign nationals during a three day targeted enforcement operation in five states including Nebraska and Iowa.

Of the 86 arrested, 32 were in Nebraska and 23 in Iowa. The arrests included a 35-year-old Mexican national arrested in Omaha, who was convicted as an illegal alien possessing a firearm, as well as arrests for other firearms-related charges.  Agents also picked up a 33-year-old Salvadoran national in Omaha, who had convictions for assault and battery, disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed weapon, and marijuana possession.

The operation specifically targeted public-safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, those who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported, and immigration fugitives with final orders of deportation by a federal immigration judge.

ICE says it does not conduct random sweeps, checkpoints or raids that target aliens indiscriminately. All ICE operations are targeted based on investigative leads. The agency says reports of ICE checkpoints are false.
