In the classroom: Elementary students learning about emotions

Posted

This week is National School Counseling Week and some in the field say they are having to get creative when it comes to grabbing and keeping the attention of their younger audiences.

Recently, some Kreft Primary School kindergartners got to learn all about emotions.

"Being in elementary school is like prime time to be a school counselor," said Kreft counselor, Skyler Avila.

Skyler Avila says the sooner students get in touch with their feelings, the less behavorial problems they have down the road.

In this lesson a board game is used to help the students realize there are different types of feelings and each feeling has a signal in our body.

Avila says the kids were able to pick up on the lesson quickly because four different colors symbolized four very different emotions.
