OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — If your travels have taken you to west Omaha lately, you've probably noticed some serious road work near 132nd and Center. That intersection is now closed due to construction work.

"Everyone complains to their barber and I would say road construction is the number one complaint right now," says Tom Wilken, Barber at Baker Square Barbershop.

Since March, the city has been widening the streets of that intersection due to a variety of reasons, including safety. The work however has caused delays and frustration.

"You start looking at the capacity issues and you realize you need dual left turn lanes, right turn lanes, you need longer stack lengths to get more traffic through there than that intersection was ever designed for," says Todd Pfitzer, City Engineer of the City of Omaha.

There is a chance winter weather could push the work back. In case that does happen, Pfitzer says people shouldn't stress. "We're not going to have to get through the winter with one lane of traffic in all directions like were having now that's not going to happen."

The city will reopen the intersection on Monday, 7/15 at 5:00 AM. They anticipate to be done with the work by the end of November, early December.
