College students in Iowa could be looking a huge tuition hike depending on their major.

The Iowa Board of Regents proposed a 3.5 percent increase in tuition at the state's public universities but that's not all their plan would do.

Officials are hoping to charge different tuition for different majors, with STEM subjects seeing a bump of anywhere from 20 to 33 percent. They say the new rates would make about $25 million for the system.

Regents are expected to vote on the change in June.
