Is your Nebraska license plate about to expire?

As the end of the year nears, Nebraska drivers may want to make their to-do list and check it twice.

The green and yellow meadowlark license plate has been phased out throughout the year and any left on the roads starting Jan. 1, 2018 will be an obvious expiration indicator.

Nebraska stopped issuing the meadowlark license plates in 2016, replacing them with the sower license plate and also upping the amount of specialty plates available.

Dixie McCalpin is one of many, many Nebraska drivers who haven't yet made the switch.

"Just haven't done it yet," she said.

Here's why she might want to get it done - you can get pulled over and ticketed for expired plates.

According to Omaha police, its just like having expired tabs or car insurance.

If you were given 2018 tabs but don't have the sower or a specialty plate, you can contact the Nebraska DMV or your local county treasurer's office
