Tyler Kennedy was sentenced to 18-20 years in prison in the death of 1-year-old Orlando Were, his girlfriend's son back in 2014.
According to the judge, with good time and time served he'll spend about 8 in prison before parole eligible.
Kennedy pleaded no contest to a lesser charge, negligent child abuse resulting in death.
Kennedy apologized to the judge, but prosecution said it wasn't sincere.
He initially told police the child choked on a bottle cap.
Doctors didn't believe that and said the child had brain bleeding, was recovering from a burn on his leg, and was recovering from a broken arm.
Kennedy also told a cell mate that he was drunk and had been smoking weed when he threw the boy in a bathtub because he was crying.
Kennedy said the child choked on a bottle cap but later told cell mate he was high & drunk when he threw the boy in a bathtub. @action3news
