Knitters needed to make hats for newborns

Knitters needed to make hats for newborns
Posted

The American Heart Association is once again asking for your help for its Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign. They are asking for volunteers to knit or crochet red hats for newborns. If you don't knit, you are invited to donate yarn to the cause.

The hats will be distributed to participating hospitals in the area for babies born in February. The effort is meant to celebrate babies and also remind mothers of the importance of heart health. Moms must take care of themselves in order to take care of their little ones. Congenital heart defects are also the most common type of birth defect in the country, occurring in one out of 110 babies.

All mailed-in donations must be received at the American Heart Association’s Greater Nebraska Regional Office in Lincoln (1540 S. 70th Street, Suite 100, Lincoln, NE 68506). In-person donations can be made during regular business hours at the offices in Lincoln and Omaha (9900 Nicholas Street, Suite 200, Omaha, NE 68114) or the Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores located in Bellevue, Lincoln and Omaha.

With Little Hats, Big Hearts, the American Heart Association is raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, the No. 1 killer in the United States, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country, occurring in one of 110 babies.
