On Tuesday afternoon, the Army Corps of Engineers began drawing down Lake Cunningham because of invasive zebra mussels affecting the lake's ecosystem.
The Army Corps of Engineers recommended draining the lake at the end of September. The City of Omaha will be closing several entrances to the park but the archery other non-water activities will still be available.
The lake is expected to refill next year and the Nebraska Games and Park Commission plans to restock the lake with sport fish and monitor its progress.
