Dozens turned out to a garage sale for a special cause at Ralston High School on Saturday.
The event for the Reid Adler Memorial Scholarship Foundation also sold merchandise with the sloga, "Be Kind."
Joni Adler and others started the saying following the death of her son, Reid Adler. He took his own life two years ago after being cyberbullied.
"There's lots of conversations that need to be had," Joni Adler said, "I think there's a lot of suicide that happens due to mental illness, but I also think there's a lot of suicides that happen due to mistakes made and snap decisions."
Joni Adler also says during these trying times felt across the country after a deadly school shooting in Florida, kindness is as important as ever.
"It's ironic, I think, that we're here in the school with the events of the week," Joni Adler said. "There's never been a more important time to be kind."
