A bill that would give volunteer emergency responders a tax credit has passed the Nebraska Legislature.
Senators voted 46-0 in favor of the bill that creates a $250 dollar tax credit for volunteer emergency responders, rescue squad members and firefighters who meet certain criteria. It also establishes a point system to determine annual qualifications for the credit.
The tax credit is expected to cost the state $2.2 million in tax revenue in the 2017-18 fiscal year and again in FY2018-19.
