Nebraska lawmakers will kick off their 60-day legislative session on Wednesday.
The state is facing a projected $173 million shortfall in the current two-year budget. It will be the last session for at least six senators who cannot run again because of term limits. Additionally, another 16 of the 49 senators are up for re-election in November of this year.
Because it is an even numbered year, the session is 60 days not 90 days. The session will end on April 18.
