OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Lewis & Clark middle school students are sending love to the Persian Gulf for Valentine's Day.
For the past week, students have been working in the mornings and after school to create 1,000 valentines for sailors serving aboard the U.S.S Stennis, an aircraft carrier currently assigned to the Persian Gulf.
Students plan to send the Valentines on February 6.
Tracy White of Civic Nebraska heads the school's after-school Community Learning Center, said the idea originated from a Facebook group she is a member of.
"We want our sailors to know that we appreciate their service to our country," White said. "We are so thankful for what they do for us every day. There a lot who do not get any mail and this Valentine's Day we want to change that."
