Douglas County District Court Judge Greg Schatz sentences an Omaha man for killing a young mother and her two year old daughter.

Dontevous Loyd received two life sentences plus 225-250 years for the shooting deaths of Destacia Straughn and Kenacia Straughn in December 2015.

In November he pleaded “No Contest” to two counts of first degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Loyd killed Straughn and her 2-year-old daughter Kenacia in cold blood and also shot three other women, as they tried to flee or begged for their lives.  It happened at the Bluffs at Cherry Hill Townhomes at 107th & Ida St.

The Straughn family says they've struggled to make sense of what happened.

“I worked real hard with her for a long time to get her prepared to be on her own and after he didn’t know them that long he killed both of them,” said Stacey Straughn, Destacia’s mother.  “Dontevous Loyd, a monster, stole almost everything except my love of Christ.  He stole my health, my peace, my comfort, my strength, and most of all my children.”

Straughn had called police twice about altercations with Loyd before the shooting that day.

Loyd had served three previous prison terms before the murders.
