A Lincoln Police officer is under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol after troopers received a report of sexual assault and an inappropriate relationship.
According to a press release from the Lincoln Police Chief Jeff Bliemeister, the officer under investigation was placed on administrative leave on Wednesday, then chose to resign on Friday.
Bliemeister declined to release the name of the officer and any other details of the alleged assault.
"Individuals responsible for these acts will be held accountable," Bliemeister said in the release, stating that LPD would continue its own internal investigation in addition to the NSP inquiry.
LPD is "actively cooperating" with the NSP investigation, the release states.
