OMAHA, Neb. — While Black Friday is all the excitement on Friday, many people are looking forward to small business Saturday.
The annual shopping event created by American Express began ten years ago to compete with major retail shopping on Black Friday.
"Typically Small Business Saturday is the big day for us. Black Friday does okay, but small Saturday is usually the bigger day for us," owner of local store Simple Man, Boyd Redinbaugh said.
Redinbaugh says there's nothing like the local shopping experience.
"The small shops tend to be I think in tune with what's happening and trends and things like that. I think we're better positioned to do that because our livelihood depends on it," he said.
According to a 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study for every dollar spent at a small business, approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.
"I feel like the people in the local shops, you know I shop local a lot and they know me and I just feel comfortable in their stores," local shopper Barbara Ries said.
Small Business Saturday is November 30, 2019.
