The man who police say stole a car from a grocery store parking lot with twin baby girls inside has been arrested.
Jacob Berney faces charges of theft by unlawful taking and two counts of child abuse by intent.
Now nearly two weeks later Yatonda Lewis says she has no ill feelings towards Jacob Berney but she does have questions.
"What was he thinking right before he grabbed the car, and I would like to know if he immediately dumped the girls or pulled over?” Yatonda Lewis said.
“Then I would like to know did he purposely leave the car on?” Lewis continued.
Lewis reunited with her eight month old twins Sophia and Alexandra about two hours after they went missing, but says her life will never be the same.
"I keep reliving that night seeing my car pull off and not knowing if I will ever see my girls again," Lewis said.
Although someone stealing your car with your children in the backseat sounds like a heinous crime, Lewis says she has no bad feelings towards Berney.
"I feel some empathy for him more than anything, I hope he gets some treatment and help," Lewis said.
Lewis says she believes Berney has a heart simply from the way it went down.
"I don't think he was trying to take my kids and he showed some compassion for not harming them," Lewis said.
"This was not a situation where someone was stalking me in the store, or watching me put the girls in the car once I got outside,” Lewis said.
“This was someone who was totally unaware that the girls were in the backseat,” Lewis continued.
She says it shows in the way he abandoned the car in the middle of a residential area.
"Did he actually leave the car running to get some attention to the car, and why did he roll the back windows down?” Lewis said.
As of now Berney does not face kidnapping charges.
Lewis says even if he never gets charged for kidnapping she won't fight it because she's just happy to have her girls back.
