A man was found alive tonight after he fell off the Mormon Bridge and into the Missouri River Wednesday afternoon.
The Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office says a 72-year-old Omaha man, Dennis Konvalin, was taking photos of the river from the bridge when he dropped his camera. He tried to recover it and fell into the river. The current carried him a quarter of a mile before he managed to get to the Iowa-side riverbank.
He had to wait for help for more than 24 hours. The Sheriff's office says men fishing on the Nebraska side riverbank Thursday night heard someone calling for help and called police.
OPD's Able 1 helicopter located Konvalin. He went to the hospital with thirst complaints but no apparent pain.
