A man was hit by a dump truck after checking the damage of his car accident.

It happened Tuesday morning just after 5:00 a.m. at Blair High Road and the I-680 eastbound intersection.

Police say Jon Rauner of Omaha was checking the damage of his car after he collided with another sedan. That's when Rauner saw a Peterbilt dump truck, driven by Lawrence Brittain of Council Bluffs, Iowa, heading toward the crash site.

Rauner went to the median to avoid the truck, but the truck hopped the curb to avoid the cars already in the road hitting Rauner while he was standing there. He was taken to Bergan Mercy Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Weather is considered a factor, as there was light rain and no overhead roadway lighting. Authorities are still investigating.
