"It was just before that year was up and Dan got tested and it came back that he was a match."
Reisdorff says for nearly a year they tested family members that just weren't a match for what he needed. That's where friend of 20 years Dan Masters came in.
"It was one of those where his daughter and my son are the same age and I try to put myself in his place,” “I think about what that might be like, and I want someone to step up and try to help me."
Just when the Reisdorff's thought they were out of options, his friend stepped in and gave him the gift of life.
“I had to step aside and breathe, it was good, it was elation.”
Masters says he did it because he knew he had the power to seriously help a friend.
Masters says this experience has brought the two friends closer than ever before.
"It just seemed like everything all fell into place like it was supposed to"
Looking back Reisdorff says that's the important message to get out, anyone can save a life.
"Honestly was a better match that we ever could have hoped for and wasn't a family member."
