Mark Mays, 25, was sentenced Thursday to 26-60 years in prison for molesting 2-year-olds at multiple Omaha day cares.
Mays received 10-20 years for each of two counts of first-degree sex assault; and 3-10 years for visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct.
The sentences will run consecutive to one another, meaning Mays will receive 26-60 years in prison and could be eligible for parole after serving 16 years. Mays will also have to register as a sex offender.
"I don't know how you became this way, sir, but you are a pedophile," Judge Gary Randall said Thursday in issuing Mays' sentence.
He also spoke of the seriousness of Mays' crimes, and the lasting impact on the victims and their families.
"The parents of these children are devastated," Judge Randall said. "You have take from those parents the ability to provide security for these children."
"You violated the most defenseless in our society," he said. "They're the ones that can't talk about it, and the ones who can't defend it. We can only hope they won't remember."
"This is clearly every parent's worst nightmare," prosecutor Molly Keane said. "If those two day-care workers hadn't walked in, he'd still be doing it."
Omaha Police have said previously that Mays worked at the Little Hands at Work and Play Daycare near 120th and Blondo streets from December 2015 to Jan. 7, 2016; and at La Petite Academy near 108th and Maple streets from May to August 2015.
