Omaha mayor Jean Stothert’s campaign officials said the mayor has raised $1.7 million for her re-election bid.

This surpasses the previous record set by former mayor Mike Fahey in his 2001 race.

“Fahey raised $1.12 million that year, an amount Stothert has surpassed by $600,000,” officials said in a statement.

“I am very appreciative of the financial support I have received for our campaign,” Mayor Stothert said.

Stothert said this allows her campaign to avoid the last-minute scramble other candidates face.

Campaign officials added that Stothert's campaign has received contributions from 1,230 small donors since finance efforts began in late May 2013.

The Omaha mayoral primary election is on April 4.
