Omaha police are trying to piece together the answers after a missing persons case turned into a killing. Somebody discovered the body near 30th Street and Hamilton in Omaha on Sunday night.
30-year-old Cornelius Hodges disappeared after leaving his mother's house a week ago.Hodges mother, Diane Perry, told police he left her house near 41st and Ohio Street around 2 a.m. Monday morning.
She added that he was headed to his apartment at 16th and Farnam downtown - a distance of more than three and a half miles. She said he would make this walk late at night often.
But Hodges never showed up at his apartment. His body was found more than a mile and half from where he was last seen.
Police haven't released information about where or when Hodges was killed but neighbors say they aren't concerned about safety.
"It's a nice neighborhood. The people are friendly. It's a very peaceful neighborhood," said Martin Spriggs, neighbor. "And it's a tragedy that something like this happens."
Hodges' mother spoke with KMTV last week saying that Cornelius had never gone missing before. She said she was very worried when he wasn't heard from because he's developmentally delayed.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 444-STOP.
