The man charged with killing Lamond Secret Jr. in a Memorial Day shooting in a Quik Trip parking lot is now a free man.
The Douglas County Attorney’s office said it dropped charges because prosecutors just learned of new evidence that changed their course of action in the case.
KMTV was the only news outlet there as Michael Goynes walked out of prison.
“Murder charges against my nephew, Michael Goynes has been dropped--because the police are falsely accusing him of a murder he did not commit,” said Goynes’ aunt Latika Goodwin.
Goynes was accused of murdering Secret Jr. as he was putting air in his car tires when somebody shot him in May.
The family said police accused the wrong guy.
“That's why the murder charges have been dismissed and dropped,” said Goodwin. “Months and months and months and he's been pain and suffering in here and they didn't give him the proper care that he needed or anything”.
Police believe the murder of Secret Jr. might have been gang-related. A bunch of shootings happened during that time appear to be retaliation, how Goynes is out.
The family said now they want to get out of Nebraska and move to California where they say they have family.
