NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (KMTV) — Nebraska City gathered at Wildwood Park reenact a battle from the Civil War.
“They just did a general for the skirmish battle something that could have taken place during the Civil War between 1861 and 1865,” Bill Hayes, Nebraska City Civil War Reenactment Organizer said.
People from all over the country got into their roles as Civil War soldiers. Gary Petit and his canon crew came from South Carolina to participate in the reenactment. The event featured real cannons from the war, muskets, and authentic uniforms from both sides. All of the re-enactors stayed in campsites.
“It's just a lot of practice,” Petit said. “And getting into your character is sometimes you see that infantry coming at you and you see those rifles pointing at you the hairs on the back of your neck you get those standing up because you're like you know it's fake but still you could get hurt.”
The group isn’t sure when their next reenactment will be; they hope to do another in a couple of years.
