Nebraska's 2nd District Congressman Don Bacon was not at the scene of the shooting at an Alexandria, Virginia shooting that injured House Majority Whip Steve Scalise Wednesday morning.

3 News Now has confirmed Bacon and other members of the Nebraska delegation were at the Nebraska breakfast and no extra security measures have been taken.

"We all know Steve Scalise. one of my personal friends, one of my mentors out here," Bacon said. "Yeah, it hurts when you hear something like that."

Bacon had been invited to play in the baseball game, but declined because of a previously scheduled event.

"We have two law enforcement that are injured too," Bacon said. "And we need to make clear, if it wasn't for them, we would have had maybe multiple law enforcement killed today."

He says security is tight around Washington and soon it could be back home.

"A lot more law enforcement are walking around the capitol<' Bacon said. "We got to see a lot more of the dogs and stuff like that. so there's a large presence. But, we are reviewing how we can improve security back in the districts."
