Nebraska's average ACT scores have dropped below the national average.
Officials say the decline was expected because 2018 is the first year all students in the graduating class took the ACT college entrance exam as juniors. The Nebraska average composite score was 20.1 this year.
The national average was 20.8. Nebraska's average composite score was 21.4 in 2017, 1.3 points higher than this year.
However, Nebraska actually ranked on the higher end of the 17 states where every student took the test because state finished fifth. Wisconsin was first with an average of 20.8 and Nevada was last with a score of 17.7.
The other states in front of Nebraska were Utah, Ohio and Kentucky.
Nearby, Missouri students finished with an average of 20.
