The 2018 election is still 14 months away, but candidates are getting an early start, including the race for governor.

A challenger will kick off his campaign tomorrow: State Sen. Bob Krist will take on Gov. Pete Ricketts Krist is a Republican, but says he will switch his party affiliation to nonpartisan.

Two weeks ago, 3 News Now anchor Craig Nigrelli sat down for one-on-one interview with Gov. Ricketts. And asked him specifically about Krist's candidacy, and his claims that the once nonpartisan unicameral has changed because of Ricketts’ influence on various races.

The governor’s response: "I am very happy to run on our record and our record involves working together collaboratively with the legislature. For example, if you look at some of the things we've done, like controlling the spending in the budget, that requires the legislature to be part of it."

So far, no Democrats have announced their candidacy in the 2018 race for governor.
