Neighbors surprised by shooting in a Millard neighborhood

A Millard man says he tried to reach out to police about strange activity at his neighbor's house before a shooting Thursday night.

Police say 40-year-old Ryan Hanson was shot in the leg around 9:30 p.m. at a home on Wier Street near P Street. He was taken to CHI Bergen Mercy; he is listed in serious condition.

David Milbourn, who lives across the street from the house where the shooting took place, says he was shocked about the incident.

"Its a pretty quiet neighborhood and we've never had anything like that happen and it was kind of shocking to me," Milbourn said. "Quite a bit of noise problems and maybe some arguments, but nothing like what happened last night."

His neighbor Daryl Martin says he went to a nearby Omaha police department to file a report and reached out to the Mayor's Hotline for help long before Hanson was shot. Martin says people frequently are seen going in and out of the house.

"Lots of traffic in and out," Martin said. "You see people show up, counting cash in their car. Go up to the door, come back out in a couple of minutes."

At last check, police were still looking for two suspects. Neighbors say two men were seen running from the home after the shooting.
