Two familiar faces were introduced Thursday as the new leaders of the Douglas County Crime Lab.

Acting lab director Justin Aumann now is permanently in his role, as is field supervisor Jodi Adams. Aumann worked on numerous cases including Andrea Kruger's murder.

He was named acting director after Tracey Ray's departure in 2015.

"I was coming from the outside, starting new," Aumann said. "I think as far as public trust, we earned that with the accreditation."

"This is a fresh look," said Sheriff Tim Dunning. "We've actually had this fresh look now for a couple of years. The county attorney who works with them the most knows these two folks and is very confident in them as well."

The lab's integrity had been called into question after former lab director David Kofoed planted evidence in a 2006 double murder case that led to two men being wrongfully charged.

Kofoed spent two years in prison for evidence tampering.
