The next section of the West Broadway reconstruction project in Council Bluffs will begin in spring of 2018.

The first section of the project was completed this year and next April, section two will begin.

“I think it makes the beginning of Council Bluffs more appeasing,” Amanda Impelluso said.

The $36 million is updating sewer lines, repairing the road, and improving the overall aesthetics along Broadway.

“Broadway has needed to be improved for many, many years but they didn't need to impact the business the way they are impacting the businesses,” Jake Powers, owner of Allstar Tire said.

Powers said the project is taking away part of his property, making his parking lot smaller.

“Nobody has ever talked to me about this so I really feel they don't care about the business on the west end of Council Bluffs,” he said.

During a meeting Thursday night, Powers took some of his concerns to the project leaders but he knows that everything is pretty much set in stone.

The city said all the changes are being made for the better and it’s not about hurting the businesses.

During construction there will be lane changes and intersections blocked, but the city said they will do their best to avoid disrupting too much of the traffic.

Section two is supposed to be done by the end of 2018 and section three will begin in 2019.
