According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expects tens of millions of Americans will spend some of their Thanksgiving weekend on the road.
From Nov. 22-27 in 2017, 528 people died in car crashes and half were not wearing seat belts. The NHTSA offers the following tips to stay safe on the road.
- Travel at a safe speed, speeding was a factor in one-third of motor vehicle fatalities.
- Wear a seat belt, in 2017, 14,955 lives were saved because of seat belts.
- Buckle your children, more than 11,000 people children under 4 have been saved by child restraints since 1975.
- Drive sober, in 2017, 10,874 people died because of drunk drivers.
