To improve emergency response times, Omaha Fire chief Dan Olsen told 3 News Now that it needs to upgrade its station's alert system.
For decades, the department pieced its current system with repairs, knowing it could only do that for so long.
During Tuesday's meeting, officials said they are accepting bids for new alert systems.
Officials are hoping to have bids by May 1 and begin system replacement by July 15.
