The Omaha Fire Department will soon be charging a $400 fee when called out to lift someone who has fallen at a nursing home or assisted living facility.
The City Council approved the measure in a unanimous vote Tuesday afternoon.
The Omaha Fire Department says they get about 350 calls a year to help lift a person who is not injured and it is taking them away from emergencies.
The fee only applies if the patient is not injured after falling or did not suffer from a medical condition before falling. The fee would not be charged to anyone who needs help at a private residence or while in hospice care.
