OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The Omaha City Council voted to extend the city's mask mandate to October 20 on Tuesday.

The vote was 5 to 2.

The existing mandate, which was instituted last month, was set to expire on September 15.

The updated ordinance allows for an exception for people playing sports. Festersen said that's something all the metro area school districts support.

In other news, the council voted not to override Mayor Jean Stothert's veto of a measure that would have sent $1.85 million from cash reserves to mental health funding. Five votes were needed to override the veto, and the council came up one vote shy.
