OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha Dog Bar is about a month into construction on it’s dog-friendly restaurant/lounge in Little Bohemia, a residential-business district just south of downtown.

“When we were looking for a location a couple of years ago, we were looking for an urban area that was pretty dense and there wasn’t a lot of green space. And this area is perfect for that,” said Leah Thrasher, owner of Omaha Dog Bar.

It's a concept she's worked closely with the health department on and tested out with pop up events for the past couple of years.

“Omaha Dog Bar is a membership based indoor outdoor dog park with a bar and eatery,” Thrasher said. “It’s a place where you can co-exist with your dog. And not leave them at home. There is an area outside where you can eat that your dog can be on leash or running in the park, and inside there is an on-leash lounge where your dog can be leashed up next to you.”

About a block away, The Chute, a women's clothing store, just celebrated a year in Little Bohemia.

“The potential for growth is what was most exciting,” said Zoey Sterba, owner of The Chute. “Seeing Archetype down here and the Tiny House and Vincent Outfitting, I could just tell that good things were going to happen and people with unique ideas were going to come here.”

Sterba said all of the local businesses have worked together to make it through the pandemic and she's excited to have another join.

“We’re all supporting each other saying go get some coffee, come shop, and then get a drink, go eat a snack,” Sterba said.

The pandemic delayed construction; Omaha dog bar was planning to open this past Spring, but still hopes to welcome patrons on two and four legs yet this year.

“The outdoor area is high grade artificial turf so in the wintertime,” Thrasher said. “It won’t get muddy from the snow. We will have heat lamps inside, and the dogs can go in and out from the park to the outdoor park.”

Dogs need a membership, but humans will be free. Omaha Dog Bar is currently hiring. Available positions are listed on their website.
