Steven L. Pankers, 56, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of explosive materials, possession of destructive devices, possession of explosive materials or destructive devices in a motor vehicle and possession or discharge of illegal fireworks Tuesday night.
The Omaha Police Bomb Squad responded to an area near Gilbert Pool and defused two homemade pipe bomb devices on location after being called when Pankers and his 19-year-old son were spotted by a Bellevue Police Officer on patrol at around 7:39 p.m., according to a Bellevue Police report.
The Bellevue Officer became suspicious when he observed one man in a vehicle and another preparing to detonate some type of homemade firework.
Authorities said additional bomb making materials were found in the car driven by the two men.
Pankers' son was released without charges.
