An Omaha man is facing federal charges. He’s accused of threatening Iowa senator Joni Ernst.

64 year old Robert William Simet made an appearance in a Council Bluffs federal courtroom today.

He's been charged with one count of threatening to assault a US official.

None of Simet's neighbors wanted to go on camera, but they did say he has lived in the neighborhood for about three years.

They say he's an ex marine who suffers from PTSD or some other mental condition.

They also say Simet would often argue with other neighbors and was very territorial.

Some even say he had a strong dislike towards women and it's not far-fetched to think he would threaten a female senator.

Simet has an extensive criminal and civil court record in the state of Nebraska.

Simet remains in jail tonight, he’s due back July 11th
