A team of CHI Health surgeons at Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln gave 51-year-old Mike Arnold a second chance at life thanks to an LVAD pump.

Arnold was experiencing heart failure and the LVAD pump will now pump blood for his heart.

It's the first operation with the new generation of LVAD pump in the state for CHI Health. The Heartmate 3 was approved by the FDA just a few weeks ago.

Arnold is an Omaha firefighter and is heading home a little over a week after heart surgery.
