Omaha mom says she is beyond thankful to have her twins back safe

There is no love like a mother's love for her children and on Thursday evening Yatonda Lewis’ heart ached for her little girls.

“Two hours, it was two hours of agony,” said Lewis.

Lewis waited and prayed in the parking lot of Baker’s near 30th and Weber, while police and family members searched for her eight-month-old twins.

“Not one time did I see anybody jump in my car, run to the car, nothing,” said Lewis.

Police say around 8 o’clock someone jumped into Lewis' Volkswagen in the Baker’s parking lot with her twins inside.

OPD is calling 33-year-old Jacob Berney a person of interest.  A search ensued and an Amber Alert was issued.

“I couldn't fathom the emotions she was going through,” said Eddie Redick.

Around 9:45, Lewis’ nephew, Eddie Redick found the car running near 33rd and Hartman.  The girls were sleeping soundly in the backseat.  The suspect was gone.

“I just can't find it in my heart to have some type of ill will towards him because they're safe,” said Lewis.

Lewis wants to thank the suspect for doing the right thing.  She says Thursday night was a wake-up call.

“Anybody who knows me and is close to me knows that I haven't always appreciated my situation, because having twins is really, really difficult,” said Lewis.

Lewis says she will never complain about having her hands full again.

“You have to love and cherish your situation, you have to make the best of it, because that's what I’m about to do,” said Lewis.

Police ask anyone with information about Jacob Berney’s whereabouts to please call 911.
