OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Omaha police say two ABLE-1 pilots worked together to pull a man out of the Elkhorn River early Sunday evening.

The pilots were told two adults and a 13-year-old needed help at the river near Waterloo.

When they arrived, they observed a man in the water and the others in a canoe.

After landing in a nearby field, Officer Messerschmidt, a 15-year veteran with OPD, hopped out of the helicopter and ran to the man in the river.

He pulled him out of the water safely and got him to the nearest ambulance.

Omaha Police Department is thankful for the pilots' quick reaction and extraordinary efforts to keep everyone safe.
