OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The United States Postal Service is expecting to process more than 6 million packages in December and they are now offering more days to get your gifts out before the holidays.

Post offices in Omaha will have extended hours this season. The main post office at 1124 Pacific Street will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 9 and 16. Postal impressions at 5346 S. 136th Street is open 1p.m. until 5 p.m. on those two Sundays, and the Elkhorn Post Office located at 20284 Wirt Street will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on those dates.

"We're just trying to help everyone get the holiday spirit out and get the packages where they need to be," Steve Cunningham, who oversees customer relations for the USPS in Omaha, said. "We want to make sure everyone meets that deadline."

The last day to ship priority for Christmas is Dec. 22, but its not recommended to wait that long.

A previous version of the story had the wrong times that the post office was open and misstated Steve Cunningham's role.
