An Omaha teen got a big surprise at school this week in the form of a college scholarship.
The College of Saint Mary awarded Gwyneth Ashley Velasco with a surprise scholarship check for $80,000. The Roncalli Catholic High School student received the check for her outstanding academics and leadership.
Velasco says she went weeks without hearing any news on the scholarship and feared she wouldn't get it.
Velasco and her family came to the United States in 2014. She plans to study chemistry at the College of St. Mary in the fall.
