Following numerous threats in the Omaha area last week, Omaha Police Captain Ken Kanger issued a challenge to his fellow officers on social media.
"I'm going to challenge law enforcement to have a school challenge," he said in a video. "Visit your school on duty. Retired officers, visit, volunteer at lunch, walk the halls, talk to classrooms. Even if it is for 30 minutes."
Kanger's message included the hashtag "School Safety Challenge," he says the challenge is meant to highlight what police officers do to combat violence in schools and let students and teachers know the officers are there for them.
