OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — From photo-bombs to a bomb squad robot, kids who spent Saturday at Christie Heights Rec center played dodge-ball and raced with volunteers from P.A.C.E. as a way to get kids and Omaha Police to hang out.

"I didn't know that they were officers until I asked one of them and I was so shocked," fifth grade student Roger Taylor said.

The second annual P.A.C.E. Christmas Adventure is paving the way between kids and local law enforcement.

"We want to make sure that kids see us as a police officer, but also as a human," Officer Nathan Dickey said. "We want to let [kids] know that we can still be approached, we can still have fun and do the same things [they are] interested in."

Elementary and middle school students got to learn about the ways law enforcement carry out their jobs. It's the stuff you wouldn't learn in an ordinary classroom, but still having fun.

"They were showing us the robot they go find bombs with and it's just really fun," seventh grade student Alexis Ignowski said.

A good way to have quality fun on a Saturday night.

"When they do see us again, maybe that idea of an officer as intimidating in person is different," Officer Dickey said. "Its makes it easier when they see us again
