Open Door Mission supporting babies in need

Posted

Open door mission says they are spreading the love early this month.

This weekend they hosted a baby shower to give gifts to dozens of mothers and babies living in the shelter.

"It's a privilege to be able to come here and bring items to people who need them and new items, nice items"

Loads of baby gifts donated by community members to give to mothers and babies living at Open Door Mission.

"Often times our mothers are struggling to make ends meet, so people just step up to fill the gap."

Filling the gaps and supporting those who need it.

"We don't know what tomorrow is going to bring, and I say all the time I don't know if I'm going to be living here at the Open Door Mission."

"50 percent of our women are victims of domestic violence, they are coming to us off the street, and they are not bringing anything with them."

President and CEO Candace Gregory says these donations go a long way.

"Many people in our community bring items for infants; babies and we actually use these at our Lydia House all year long."

So Debbie Blanks says while she has the means to support someone else in their time of need she does just that.

"I want to treat the people here how I want to be treated, because I could be here at anytime if my circumstances change and they can.
