Parking changes coming to Eppley Airfield

Posted

Eppley Airflied is growing in passengers, and Chief of Police Tim Conahan says at least 4.3 million people flew out of Eppley in the last year.

"When we hit certain benchmarks of passenger traffic we have to build additional structures."

So they are building a new six story parking garage that will provide 3000 additional parking spaces.

900 will be for rental cars and 2,100 for passengers.

"Our customers are asking for more in close parking."

"With the parking garage our customers can get more protection for their vehicles from the elements."

Frequent flyer Roger Johnson says he typically uses offsite parking.

"I think I've used airport parking once or twice, when it was under the previous management company.”

“I didn't really care for how it was done."

He says he's hoping this new project will make a difference.

"We definitely need to make some improvements in the airport infrastructure and I’m looking forward to it."

Beginning tonight two major parking lots will shutdown.

These lots will remain open for passenger parking.

"The parking garage itself will still be up and running, we have our Long Term North and South parking lot that is also available."

Conahan says passengers can also refer to the Fly Oma app for parking availability before arriving.

"We are taking steps to make sure we minimize problems and congestion along the way.

The Canopy lot and Surface lot will close Thursday night.

Construction for the 89 million dollar project is expected to start in May.
