Phi Kappa Psi's national chapter has suspended their Nebraska Beta chapter after one of their members were involved in an assault at Creighton University. This comes after meeting with Creighton officials Wednesday morning.

The national chapter has released this following statement:

Phi Kappa Psi National Fraternity was disturbed to learn of an incident involving a former new member of the Nebraska Beta chapter (Creighton University). Immediately, the fraternity opened an investigation and has been working to review the situation. While this investigation is ongoing, the Nebraska Beta Chapter has been suspended temporarily.

The fraternity takes this matter seriously and is committed to conducting a thorough investigation. It is the policy of Phi Kappa Psi not to coerce or require drug or alcohol use at any time. We remain focused on holding our chapters to high standards in promoting safe and healthy environments for our members and others in the campus community.

Founded in 1965, the Nebraska Beta Chapter of Phi Kappa Psi has had a long and impressive history in its association with the Creighton University community. While the philanthropic and academic achievements of the chapter are too numerous to mention, the chapter’s alumni include businessmen, attorneys, dentists, physicians, researchers, veterans and the two most recent Creighton University Presidents, Fr. Tim Lannon and Fr. John Schlegel.

The suspect, Christopher Wheeler, was a new member of Phi Kappa Psi who had recently finished Spring Recruitment. He has not been formally inducted into the fraternity and is no longer affiliated with the Nebraska Beta Chapter.

The Phi Kappa Psi National Fraternity has successfully been in contact with Creighton and is cooperating with the university and local law enforcement.

Phi Kappa Psi continues to extend thoughts and prayers to Teresa Spagna and her family. We wish her a speedy recovery.
