Sarpy County Sheriff deputies arrested a man caught on camera stealing packages from porches in a Sarpy County neighborhood nearly 24 hours after his photo was plastered through social media.

Officials arrested 31-year-old Roland Johnson Jr. at the Red Carpet Inn near 144th and I-80 around 1:30 p.m. for five counts of theft and possession of stolen property. Police say they discovered several stolen packages in his hotel room.

Police say Johnson was staying at the hotel with a woman. Police have said the woman is not criminally involved at this time.

On Wednesday, Derik Snow contacted the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office after he and his wife received a notification from their Ring Video Doorbell app around 2 p.m., which showed someone was on their property on 151 St. near Giles Road.

“I was driving so my wife called me and said, ‘Oh my gosh, look! Someone is stealing something from our porch!” We weren’t home so unfortunately there wasn’t anything to do but watch them take the stuff and call the police,” said Snow.

Snow says the package that was stolen contained sippy cups for his twin daughters.

“I’m sure the thieves were disappointed with what they found,” said Snow, who just had just installed the doorbell camera a few days ago. He says he initially installed the camera after a recent robbery and sexual assaultin his neighborhood.

Snow’s camera also captured a man believed to be Johnson, accompanied by another person, stealing several other packages on the same street.

Captain Culler from the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office says they were able to make an arrest due to Johnson’s photo and doorbell video being shared widely through social media.

“We’d like to thank everyone for sharing the video over social media, and for partnering with us in solving these crimes,” said Culler in a press release.

Police say the stolen items will be returned to their owners.
