A drug bust in a quiet suburban neighborhood and the drug of choice is a potent form of cannabis. The investigation started in June of last year, and concludes with an arrest this month.
Christopher Masek is charged with 4 felony counts of possession with intent to distribute.
A search warrant indicates a confidential informant bought drugs from Masek at his home near 84th & East 6th Streets in Papillion. One of the drugs purchased is called “shatter,” a form of cannabis resin that's cooled and is broken like glass.
It's similar to hash oil and is said to be 40-90-percent more potent than leaf marijuana.
"It's not an oily state it's actually brittle hence the name shatter. Think of it as a thin sheet of resin, sort of honey colored to dark and makes it very easy to transport and easy to break into small pieces that an individual could smoke," said Michael Shavers, spokesman for US Drug Enforcement Agency.
The DEA says they're seeing more concentrated cannabis resin showing up in Colorado, California, and the Pacific Northwest.
The informant told police Masek would travel to Colorado often for work, and bring back substantial quantities to sell.
Masek posted 10% of his $50,000 bond. He has a preliminary hearing next month.
